The LAMP™ approach is unique in that focus is given to the development of a unique and consistent motor movement to articulate each word as in verbal speech as a key component in language development.

This presentation will explore how motor automaticity develops in AAC, and its benefits including rate enhancement and decreased cognitive load during communication. John Halloran will discuss the role motor plans play in the development of segmentation of speech, the ability to hear individual words in a phrase or sentence. Lance McLemore will share his personal experiences with different AAC systems and how consistent motor plans, or the lack thereof affected his ability to engage in conversation and the social implications for developing relationships.
